Flatbush Avenue : Flatbush Avenue is the Broadway of Brooklyn. It slips from one neighborhood to another and another and another, from the Manhattan Bridge until it reaches Marine Parkway near Kings Plaza shopping center. Brooklyn's other main roads, like Ocean Avenue, Linden Boulevard, Empire Boulevard, Utica Avenue, and Eastern Parkway, all have an end at Flatbush Avenue. But Flatbush Avenue is more than a thoroughfare. It's a place where people flock, either by choice, by economics, by culture, or just because.

ACPT 2013 : American Crossword Puzzle Tournament 2013 Every year since 1978, crossword puzzlers from all walks of life have come together to compete in the world's largest crossword puzzle tournament, the ACPT, founded and directed by the one and only Will Shortz. This year, nearly 600 contestants squeezed themselves into a banquet hall at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott and over the course of three days, lived, breathed, worshipped, and on occasion, swore at the mighty crossword. Some puzzlers had come for the first time, like Glen Ryan and Aaron Wilson. Many came together, including the father-daughter team of Steven and Bethanie Perskie. Others were veterans and legends in their own right, like Ellen Ripstein, Al Sanders, Jon Delfin, and Miriam Raphael. And of course there were those puzzlers that even the crosswords themselves were afraid of, such as Dan Feyer, Anne Erdmann, Tyler Hinman, Francis Heaney, and Stella Zawistowski. But regardless of whether a player came to win it all, finish the puzzle, beat their times from last year, or just to meet and hang out with ACPT friends, there was one thing in particular that all the puzzlers had in common: a sense of true camaraderie. Vino y Chocolate 2013 : Bilingual Education for Central America's Fifth Annual Vino & Chocolate. It was an evening filled with fine wines and chocolates to celebrate the work being undertaken in support of the children in Honduras. May 2, 2013 481 Broadway Bilingual Education for Central America exists to promote cultural exchange and affordable bilingual education. Our volunteer-driven bilingual school model creates an environment in which Central American students learn from dedicated volunteer teachers, and those volunteers learn from the community in which they are immersed. Through our partnership with three community-based Honduran organizations, over 450 children in Pre-K to 9th grade are educated at our three partner schools by a team of 23 US volunteers and 9 Hondurans. Two additional communities are currently being surveyed for future partnership growth.
